Bad Sign: Agreeing With the Crazies on “i am neurotic”

When agreeing to the “Terms of Use” on websites, I always have to scroll all the way to the bottom kind of slowly for fear that they’ll know I didn’t actually read them.

The sad thing is I have this same fear. I’m always convinced that there’s some sort of gotcha in the TOS (like a sentence stating that the “cancel” button is actually the “submit” button) and they’re going to find out I didn’t read the whole thing.

I’ve had too much wine (a delicious local semi-sweet red though I usually like my reds dry) to think up a good title but anyway, there’s a group of ROTC guys or army recruits or something that run through my neighborhood once or twice a week. About fifteen of them, all gorgeous, and they do that I DON’T KNOW BUT I’VE BEEN TOLD style yelling as they run and everytime they pass by my ovaries go into overdrive. GodDAMN this sexual peak thing is amazing. I thought my thirties were going to be boring.

So, I heard about the Verne Troyer sex tape and someone on ONTD asked if little people were “smaller” than normal and I decided to do some research and performed a Google image search for “midget porn” and got nothing and was all, “this is bullshit!” until I realized I had Moderate Safe Search turned on.

Answer: I can’t tell because the perspective throws me off. I mean, for all I know that could just be a very large vagina, right?

Modern Nostalgia

If you’re like me and harbor unnatural amounts of nostalgia for the 80s, you simply MUST run right out and get M83’s album Saturdays=Youth. Although released just last month, it simply oozes with angst and synth and pop straight out of the John Hughes era. It’s the soundtrack to the never-ending twisted production of Pretty In Pink that is my internal monologue. (Where’s my Duckie?)

Shit, even if you don’t like the 80s, you should buy it (or anything by M83) anyway. It’s just damn good music. It’s beautiful, haunting, dreamy and lush. Every song on the album stands on its own as a beautifully performed and produced piece of electronic pop and the album as a whole is just overwhelmingly lovely and bittersweet. At the same time, some of the lyrics are deliberately silly and over the top (who WASN’T silly and over the top as an 80s teen?) A lot of the reviews I’ve seen for the album (almost all positive) have mentioned “teen angst” and it’s definitely there — that painful yearning, the feeling of being on the brink of something huge and frightening yet liberating and the pain of being caught between carefree youth and the responsibility of adulthood. It brings my right back to fifteen and all of the pain and beauty that came along with it. But it also reminds me of how absurd it all was. I just adore the whole thing.
